Forests

All our initiatives are interconnected, and forests are at the core.

To address deforestation, Sukh Bhumi started multiple activities. A plantation drive around the forest was initiated, but we soon learned that since there was no one to care for and be responsible for the saplings, the survival rate was meagre in open areas and most of the plants were lost to grazing. So we changed our approach to ensure a higher survival rate and increase green cover and introduced other activities.

Green Cover Restoration through Plantation Drives

We organise plantation drives in monsoon to propagate
Indigenous varieties of plants/trees in association with partner organizations. Sukh Bhumi Team participates in the drive and also monitors these plants during field visits to preserve the saplings to achieve full growth. Many well-wishers contribute to plantation and sapling distribution by donating on birthdays and memorable days.

    Seed-ball Creation and Distribution

To increase green cover in tribal areas, we trained women to make seed balls of local plants for seed dispersal. Our villagers have dispersed these seed balls in their local areas and neighborhoods. Slowly awareness is increasing and demand too. This year seed-balls have become one of
the seasonal sources of income for the villagers. On the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Sukh Bhumi Team distributed seed balls to nearby companies.

    Sapling Distribution to Locals

To ensure a high survival rate, we give saplings of local plant/tree species to tribal people who plant them in their gardens. These are mostly fruit plants or medicinal plants which can fulfil their nutritional needs too. We constantly monitor the phases of growth of trees to ensure that the plant survives and flourishes.

    Vadi Project

Vadi Project is an intercropping with fruits project aimed toward a land restoration-based module for environmental restoration and increasing green cover.

    • Cultivated in 1 Acre land
    • Land restoration: unused land utilization
    • Soil fertility is maintained
    • Reduction in soil runoff
    • Utilizes resources sufficiently
    • Productivity is increased

We at Sukh Bhumi use our expertise through:

    • Trenches
    • Soil mix for the initial phase
    • Jungle juice as fertilizer and pesticide
    • Mulching, cutting, and pruning methods in the growth phase
    • Effective water management
