Origins and Missions

Sukh Bhumi is a Non-Governmental Organisation whose global aim is to bring awareness and education, to rehabilitate and protect the environment, and promote sustainable development.

In rural villages of Maharashtra, through environmental education, farming training and water management, we help villagers and students to increase knowledge, develop skills, assert self-confidence and enhance well-being.

Our Mission

  • To restore reverence and respect for nature.
  • To honour human dignity and help people towards recovering self-dignity, self-reliance and self-respect.
  • To help people enhance their relationship with nature.
  • To build up a holistic approach for uplifting livelihoods that involves education, conservation and rehabilitation of natural resources, eco-friendly technology and vocational training.
  • To help people increase their awareness of nature and the importance of environment in their lives and involve them on a sustainable basis in the maintenance of their environment.
  • To contribute to watershed rehabilitation and environmental restoration.
  • To build a sustainable future for families, communities and villages living in conditions of poverty.

Our Approach

Striving for a sustainable life in rural areas with conservation of the environment

Sustainability of life includes many aspects of daily life, which linked together, lead to material and spiritual well-being based on sufficient supply and knowledge. It can only be attained once all needs for daily life and well-being are being addressed in a long-lasting way, leaving an harmonious and abundant inheritance for the next generations.

Sustainable life in rural areas is the key to rehabilitation and conservation of the environment. Adequate supply of food products, forest products and income, as well as increase of knowledge and awareness will lead to the rehabilitation of the environment and the natural resources, benefiting not only the villagers but also towns’ inhabitants. Re-greening of the area can participate in many levels:

  • Water quality and quantity
  • Soil amendment
  • Forest and environment rehabilitation
  • Decrease of social problems inherent to emigration from the rural areas and to loss of self-respect and dignity
  • Rehabilitation of sense of sacred for nature and its components, & protection of sacred forests and sites
  • Recreational areas for town inhabitants (eco-tourism)
